UFC Fight Night 207: What to Expect

By: Evan Presswood

The big names that you should look out for this weekend are Alonzo Menifield, Ode Osbourne, Dan Ige and the main event of Volkov and Rozenstruik.

To open up the main card, we will see a very explosive but technically sound light heavyweight in Alonzo Menifield. Menifield has a good resume to this point in his career with a knockout victory over Paul Craig the current number 8 light heavyweight contender, a unanimous decision victory over the former contestant on the ultimate fighter Ed Herman, and has displayed his Jiu Jitsu with the rare Von Flue-Choke against Fabio Cherant at UFC 260. His opponent is Askar Mozharov who has a 21-11 Pro MMA record comparable to Menifield’s 11-3 record. Mozharov is making his UFC debut this Saturday but his Sambo wrestling style could be problematic for Menifield if he can get him on the ground. In the fights that I’ve seen, I have not seen Menifield shoot for takedowns, and I imagine this fight will show that as well. This fight will start on the feet and should stay there if Menifield is able to stuff the early takedown. I could see this one ending from a Menifield TKO or by a Mozharov decision.

The next fight that I’m excited for is Ode Osbourne vs Zarrukh Adashev. Osbourne came into the UFC in July of 2019 by way of Dana White's Contender Series, winning with a late round one armbar. Osbourne is a flashy fighter and his only two UFC losses are from Brian Kelleher and Manel Kape, the 14th ranked flyweight. Neither him or Adashev will go to the ground unless they have to and this will likely be a fight of the night candidate. I'm very excited to see Osbourne’s quickness and It would not surprise me if he got an early knockout. Osbourne seems to be a better fighter in all aspects and my personal lock of the night. A win here could push Osbourne closer to becoming a ranked flyweight in a rather open division.

DraftKings has this one at -180 for Osbourne and +155 for Adashev.

In the co-main event of the night, Dan Ige coming off a loss looks to bounce back against the undefeated Mosvar Evloev. Ige has fought some big names such as Calvin Kattar, Edson Barboza, The Korean Zombie, and most recently Josh Emmett. Although his only big name victory is over a declining Edson Barboza, all of those fights were relatively close, all going to decisions. Evloev is 5-0 since entering the UFC winning each of those fights by decision. Ige is a serious underdog, but much better than Evloev's competition. I see this fight going the same way that the oddsmakers do being a domination victory for Evloev. Iges takedown defense will be tested for the duration of the fight and his only chance is if he can catch him on the way in. Evloev's decision seems inevitable, but I'm hoping Ige can keep on his feet and keep the fight close. This fight could shake up the tail end of the featherweight division, Ige being ranked 10 and Evloev being ranked 13. With a Evloev victory, we could see a matchup with Bryce Mitchell, which would be a wrestling fan's dream.

DraftKings has this one at -410 for Evloev and +310 for Ige.

The main event between Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik is a no debate heavyweight title eliminator. Both men have fought the best their division has to offer, both have been knocked out and have highlighted worthy knockouts. Volkov is coming off a loss just two months ago where he was submitted by Tom Aspinall in round one by arm bar. Aspinall is an incredible prospect and Volkov was unable to deal with his early groundwork. In his fight before that, he looked incredible as he picked apart Marcin Tybura. Volkov was able to use his incredible size and reach which he will need to do against Rozenstruik if he wants to be victorious. Rozenstruik is also coming off a loss to Curtis Blaydes where Blaydes was able to out wrestle him and win by decision. Both of these fighters will keep this one standing but with different styles. Volkov will start off slow as he likes to do and try to tire Rozenstruik out and pick him apart in the later rounds. Volkov has shown in the past that he can do this by dominating from a distance. Rozenstruik will have to find a way to close the range and hurt Volkov early, which he has the power and precision to do. Look for Rozenstruik to chop down Volkovs legs throughout the fight and for Volkov to counter with jabs and body kicks. This will be a technical and entertaining fight. I can see Volkov winning by a decision but would not be surprised if Rozenstruik is able to get inside Volkovs range and hurt him early.

DraftKings has this one at -155 for Volkov and +135 for Rozenstruik.
